Curry Fish Head with rice is simply appetizing! If you happen to be in the area of Setapak to have lunch, then make your way to Peter Curry Fish Head restaurant. This shop operates daily (except Tuesdays) between 11.30am and 2:30pm only. Address is 12, Jalan Angsana, Taman P. Ramlee, 53000 Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Click here to locate from google map.
This shop has been around since the mid-80s. Peter started this business and grew the brand. Peter is no longer here, and his business is now run by his son, Philip.
What is unique, is that this Curry Fish Head has assam added to the broth for ‘sour kick’ which appeals the Malaysian Chinese taste bud. The taste is not what you will be accustomed to from Curry Fish Head served in Indian and Indian Muslim restaurants.
I took 3 colleagues there earlier this month (Nov 2016) and they approved my recommendation of the Curry Fish Head. A medium claypot with Fish Head only will cost RM36. The other dish not to be missed is the Deep Fried crispy Chicken Wings. For the 3rd dish, I decided on stir fried Choy Sum with garlic. Here are the pictures :
If you have a bigger lunch group, I would recommend ordering Peter signature Seafood Fried Tofu, and adding Big Prawns into Fish Head Curry claypot. Being someone who grew up around this Setapak neighbourhood, I can attest that this restaurant continues to draw lunch crowds daily as I far as I can remember from the 80s era.
So head there early before the 1pm crowd to get yourself a table seating. Car parking spaces are abundant as you are in the housing area. Best of all, parking is free!
